Smart Matching Platforms and Heterogeneous Beliefs in Centralized School Choice

چکیده

Many school districts with centralized choice adopt strategyproof assignment mechanisms to relieve applicants of the need strategize on basis beliefs about their own admissions chances. This paper shows that chances shape outcomes even when mechanism is by influencing way search for schools, and “smart matching platforms” provide live feedback help more effectively. Motivated a model in which engage costly schools over-optimism can lead under-search, we use data from large-scale survey participants Chile show learning hard, guide decision stop searching, systematically underestimate non-placement risk. We then RCT RD research designs evaluate scaled policies Chilean New Haven systems. 22% submitting applications where risks are high respond warnings adding lists, reducing risk 58% increasing test score value added at they enroll 0.10 standard deviations. Reducing strategic burden requires not just strategyproofness inside system, but also supports decisions inevitably remain outside it.

Generalized Matching for School Choice

The school choice problem is formulated as a one-sided or a twosided matching problem. However, neither model adequately captures the features of the market design applications of school choice. In particular, the one-sided matching solution may be politically infeasible; and the two-sided matching solution may involve ineffi ciencies. We introduce a generalized model that encompasses one-sided...

Centralized Clustering Method To Increase Accuracy In Ontology Matching Systems

Ontology is the main infrastructure of the Semantic Web which provides facilities for integration, searching and sharing of information on the web. Development of ontologies as the basis of semantic web and their heterogeneities have led to the existence of ontology matching. By emerging large-scale ontologies in real domain, the ontology matching systems faced with some problem like memory con...

Heterogeneous Preferences and the Efficacy of Public School Choice

Public school choice plans are intended to increase equity and quality in education by offering students at under-performing schools immediate academic gains from attending a higherachieving school and by creating demand-side pressure on under-performing schools to improve. We develop a model to show how these gains from choice depend on heterogeneity in how parents choose schools, and test the...

School choice and information: An experimental study on matching mechanisms

We present an experimental study where we analyze three wellknown matching mechanisms— the Boston, the Gale-Shapley, and the Top Trading Cycles mechanisms— in di¤erent informational settings. Our experimental results are consistent with the theory, suggesting that the TTC mechanism outperforms both the Boston and the GaleShapley mechanisms in terms of e¢ ciency and it is slightly more successfu...
